Prior to going to Camp Chase, he was furloughed on 17 Sep
1863. His destination was Henderson County, Tennessee. His
daughter, Sarah Elizabeth was born 27 Jun 1864, 9 months
after his furlough.
Martha's son, Francis J. Smothers also fought in the Civil
War. Martha received a Civil War widow's pension. She
bought land in Tishomingo county MS in 1860 from her
brother, Elbert Pinkston. She also bought land in Carroll
County TN in 1883.
